2 Hours in Salzburg: Some of the most enchanting attractions of Salzburg include its renowned baroque architecture, numerous grand palaces as well as a medieval fortress on a mountain.  It is a picture-perfect city to visit, and the old town is suitable to wander around if you have only 2 hours in Salzburg.

The River Salzach runs through the historical city, but each side is easy to reach as it is compact enough to explore on foot.  It is also easy to navigate due to straight roads and wide open spaces, plenty of which are green, such as Mirabell Palace Gardens.  From here, the views of the Hohensalzburg Fortress towering over Salzburg are magnificent, and it is also possible to admire the glorious landscape from the banks of the river.

Salzburg is particularly popular for seeing the film locations of ‘The Sound of Music’, and it is also the birthplace of Mozart.  In between sightseeing around the city, shopping enthusiasts can enjoy pretty boutiques that line charming cobblestone alleyways.

Dining in Salzburg

Dining options around the city include independent restaurants serving Austrian delicacies such as ‘schnitzel’; international cuisine to cater to all tastes in centrally located hotel chains such as Crowne Plaza; as well as the luxury Hotel Sacher, where the world-famous Sacher-Torte is served.

Day trips from Salzburg

Salzburg is a great base from which to visit nearby attractions in the same state such as Zell am See and Hallstatt, as well as Vienna for a day trip.

The German state of Bavaria, whose capital Munich is only ca. 2 hours away by train, is equally accessible with its scenic Berchtesgaden region being even closer.
